The Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies building was opened by Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi of Sharjah in 2001. It’s distinctive architectural design evokes the region and has become a unique landmark on the Exeter university campus. The IAIS Street Gallery is a dedicated exhibition space and there is a visiting speaker seminar series during term-time, for more info visit IAIS Events. Students come from all over the world and from all faiths to study here.  Our project volunteers interviewed Middle East expert Professor Tim Niblock (now retired from the IAIS), telling the story of the individuals who helped form the IAIS in the 1970s and shares his reflections on Exeter’s Arab and Muslim communities.
